Career or motherhood is one of the dilemmas that many women think about almost from the moment they send their first resume. Often in job interviews the questions are raised: “Do you plan to get married? Do you plan to have children?” Other times employers ask it outright, although it is no longer legal. Or there are women who resign from jobs because they were hired with the promise that they would not have children.
However, in the second decade of the 21st century, women should now consider this dilemma obsolete. Our career, our successful career, our work should not be an obstacle to motherhood and family.
But how can such a deeply rooted belief be overturned? In the business coaching process, there is a tool we use called flip it.
Let’s overturn this stereotype of a career that is incompatible with motherhood and try to find ways to harmonize our personal and work lives.
How did family bring balance to my work life?
One of the countless and endless pieces of advice I heard when I first became a mother was: “for your baby to be well, the mother must first be well.”
In my case, to be well as a mother is to be able to work and create. I started working at 19 while studying. But now, after many years of work, starting my own venture as a coach and indeed a mother of two little girls, I can officially and happily declare that I now enjoy my work.
I have always had in my mind (almost like a dream) the possibility of being able to create my family but also to work and be able to enjoy both. Creating a family and balancing the work arena was and is my absolute priority!
What I wanted was to be able to live with my children, my husband, and at the same time work without it meaning that the hours I dedicate to my work are much more than the hours I dedicate to my family.
As a restless mind, I wondered how I could find a solution… And what was my solution? Career and motherhood without the divorce or.
Career and motherhood without the divorce or?
My solution was to change my mindset.
I started making my decisions with my family as a priority and stopped seeing my family as an “obstacle” to my ability to work.
Instead of finding a way to leave my kids with my husband to have a business meeting, I took my kids with me to the meeting! My change in mindset and my new attitude, that: “what could be simpler? I am a mother of young children who also wants to work, changed all my balances”! I achieved what I always wanted! Personal and professional balance!!! I dare say that I have achieved it.
Every day I am with my family and every day I find time for my work. I feel incredibly creative to do new things in business coaching, to create something new in collaboration with my loved ones and at the same time not to miss a moment from my family. Of course, every day is not the same… there are difficulties, setbacks but there is also the but… The overall result matters. Family and work go together for me, because that is what makes me well so that my children are well too.
When I began to realize how much everything around me had changed in my favor, I began to envision how wonderful it would be if other women adopted my perspective and mindset. How different working conditions would be for women, mothers, and how many more women would take the initiative to become entrepreneurs!
Changing our mindset and way of thinking is one of the important benefits of business coaching .
One of the countless benefits of business coaching is the change of mentality, the mindset that the Anglo-Saxons also say! Business coaching is the method that will lead you to this change! Business coaching is our compass in the new data of work culture.
