Job Burnout syndrome, professional burnout, is not just the overwork, the excessive physical fatigue that we feel. According to the Mayo Clinic, job burnout is directly linked to our work stress, it combines our physical and emotional fatigue.
The symptoms of burnout
- Waking up in the morning has become more difficult, the process of getting up, getting ready, and getting to your workplace is almost painful.
- When you are at work, you feel like you can’t concentrate and are constantly nervous or stressed.
You lose your patience very easily with your partners, colleagues, and clients. - You think that the way you work is not productive, efficient, or you don’t feel creative.
- You don’t feel happy when you accomplish something very difficult.
- At work, you constantly look at the clock and can’t wait to get up and leave, to go home. You can’t wait for the weekend or your day off because you think you’ll feel better. But even when that day comes, you struggle and get stressed because you know you’ll have to go back to work again.
- If you have your own business, a constant stress lurks that prevents you from seeing problems or solutions clearly.
- Anxiety is now starting to cause you insomnia, or you have intense physical symptoms.
- Are you constantly angry, pessimistic, and melancholic, or have you become cynical?
These are just some of the symptoms of burnout, the professional exhaustion caused by work stress, the anxiety that many of us experience at work. This lack of enthusiasm, the feeling of frustration, the physical and emotional exhaustion does not only concern us.
Burnout during the pandemic.
The pandemic and the imposition of teleworking seem to have exacerbated the “workplace burnout epidemic” and has mainly affected women. According to a survey by Deloitte, almost 50% have recently experienced work burnout. The participants in the survey were 5,000 working women from 10 different countries, many of whom reported “alarming rates” of stress and work exhaustion.
