Motherhood and work

You look at the clock, it’s still early in the morning but the baby is hungry. You pick it up and feed it. You think, great, I’ll start my day earlier and find some time to see these pending tasks that have been haunting me for days. In your mind, you’ve already made your plan and set your priorities. You finish feeding and somewhere right where you’ve made the decision to get up… fatigue overcomes you and you fall asleep. To-dos come to you in your sleep and instead of this sleep offering you a few minutes of rest, you have woken up more tired and more stressed.. Again the dates on the deadlines will change… And again other to-dos will be added to your tower of to-dos…! Again you feel that fluttering in your stomach that comes to be added to the already infinite feelings you have and that suffocate you. Again you feel that you have been defeated by your daily and demanding routine. How close to your daily life is this story? It is not a story, however, for many of us, mothers! It is an everyday situation that all mothers who want and long to combine motherhood and their work live constantly and constantly. Coaching can help you organize your time. It can help you manage to find time for your professional pursuits or even start and create something of your own, without missing out on the wonderful journey of motherhood, the life of your child or children! Decide to commit and dedicate yourself to yourself and what you want to achieve. Train your thinking and achieve your goals! Become the best version of yourself!

What is business coaching?

What is Business Coaching? Business coaching  is a contemporary framework that focuses on developing the skills and self-awareness of professionals. Often, understanding what business coaching is becomes clearer if we first look at what it is not. Business coaching  is not a consultancy service. The business coach does not advise, does not directly guide, does not indirectly direct, does not recommend solutions. On the contrary, her role is to inspire and support the client to find their own solutions and develop their own skills. Evolution and Current Status of Business Coaching Coaching as a business practice did not fully emerge until the mid-20th century, when it focused primarily on supporting high-level executives to overcome obstacles. This support included examining their individual leadership performance and their development in the workplace. Today, after four decades, the field of business coaching has evolved significantly, making it multidimensional and complex. However, business coaching in Greece still has a long way to go. Many people confuse it with psychotherapy or business consulting, which indicates the need for further information and understanding of the difference and value of coaching. Women Do Coaching! The businessbest.gr page   & the facebook group  BusinessBest.gr Coaching By Mina Tsava We invite you to join the 1st women’s group ” Women DoCoaching ” starting on October 15, 2021 and experience the benefits of business coaching! But let’s put some order and order into our thinking! I’m sure that many of you, after reading the paragraph above, would have wondered what coaching is and what its benefits are! While the term coaching has been heard very strongly in recent years in our country, in the U.S., the coaching industry has developed since the 1970s! To the question of what coaching is, there are many answers depending on the perspective from which you want to analyze it. But what is coaching in essence and what can it offer us? Coaching is a method, a new approach to becoming the best version of ourselves and achieving our goals. It creates an equal relationship between the coach and the coachee (client) and through effective methods and questions we train and educate ourselves, so that we can find solutions to the issues that concern us and limit us. We could argue that coaching has elements in common with the Socratic method, the dialectic. “…The Dialectic method was directly connected to dialogue. It is a form of dialogue used by Socrates, in which the philosopher tried to lead his interlocutor to discover the deeper truth of things, the one that remains independent of circumstances and conditions. In this particular method, Socrates let his interlocutor freely express his opinion on the subject they were discussing, initially considering this opinion as complete and well-founded. Then, through the process of questions and answers, he shows through simple examples the extreme consequences of these opinions, thus proving the fragility of their arguments. He therefore leads his interlocutor to discover new conclusions and new approaches to the truth.” (Wikipedia, biography of Socrates) In coaching, the key use of questions by the coach tries to lead us to our truth, where we feel complete and consistent with our inner purpose and desire. Trust, acceptance, activating empathy, active listening, the use of the right and productive questions and constructive feedback are some of the coach’s tools to lead the coachee to achieve their goal! Where is coaching applicable? Coaching can help us in all areas of our lives. Whether personal or professional. We become better, so we can improve all the areas in which we are involved. And what does it mean to become better? It means that we can distinguish the important from the unimportant in our daily lives, overcome obstacles and become more efficient, grow and evolve as people, find the balance between our personal life and professional activities, have harmonious relationships with the people around us and much more. In short, coaching is a holistic approach that focuses on human balance and our spiritual well-being. It is, we could say, a “cousin” of the science of psychology, also having elements from management theory. However, it is important to emphasize that coaching is not aimed at people who have issues that need and require psychological or psychiatric treatment. Coaching also has its specialties, that is, there is business coaching, life coaching, inspirational coaching, leadership coaching and many others, depending on what issue we are interested in solving and what methodology the coach follows. Personally, I am involved in business coaching with exclusive collaboration with women only. Why only women? I have been in all the previous situations until I decided to find a solution so that I could be a dedicated mother without excluding myself from my personal desires and the job market. Coaching sessions can help us. Coaching can give us the tools to find our solutions and empower ourselves. This will be the purpose of our meetings. It will be our personal empowerment and the foundation of faith in ourselves so that we can function successfully in the multiple roles we have as women! Career or motherhood? Balance between our personal and work lives.

Career or motherhood is one of the dilemmas that many women think about almost from the moment they send their first resume. Often in job interviews the questions are raised: “Do you plan to get married? Do you plan to have children?” Other times employers ask it outright, although it is no longer legal. Or there are women who resign from jobs because they were hired with the promise that they would not have children. However, in the second decade of the 21st century, women should now consider this dilemma obsolete. Our career, our successful career, our work should not be an obstacle to motherhood and family. But how can such a deeply rooted belief be overturned? In the business coaching process, there is a tool we use called flip it. Let’s overturn this stereotype of a career that is incompatible with motherhood and try to find ways to harmonize our personal and work lives. How did family bring balance to my work life? One of the countless and endless pieces of advice I heard when I first became a mother was: “for your baby to be well, the mother must first be well.”In my case, to be well as a mother is to be able to work and create. I started working at 19 while studying. But now, after many years of work, starting my own venture as a coach and indeed a mother of two little girls, I can officially and happily declare that I now enjoy my work. I have always had in my mind (almost like a dream) the possibility of being able to create my family but also to work and be able to enjoy both. Creating a family and balancing the work arena was and is my absolute priority! What I wanted was to be able to live with my children, my husband, and at the same time work without it meaning that the hours I dedicate to my work are much more than the hours I dedicate to my family. As a restless mind, I wondered how I could find a solution… And what was my solution? Career and motherhood without the divorce or. Career and motherhood without the divorce or? My solution was to change my mindset. I started making my decisions with my family as a priority and stopped seeing my family as an “obstacle” to my ability to work. Instead of finding a way to leave my kids with my husband to have a business meeting, I took my kids with me to the meeting! My change in mindset and my new attitude, that: “what could be simpler? I am a mother of young children who also wants to work, changed all my balances”! I achieved what I always wanted! Personal and professional balance!!! I dare say that I have achieved it. Every day I am with my family and every day I find time for my work. I feel incredibly creative to do new things in business coaching, to create something new in collaboration with my loved ones and at the same time not to miss a moment from my family. Of course, every day is not the same… there are difficulties, setbacks but there is also the but… The overall result matters. Family and work go together for me, because that is what makes me well so that my children are well too. When I began to realize how much everything around me had changed in my favor, I began to envision how wonderful it would be if other women adopted my perspective and mindset. How different working conditions would be for women, mothers, and how many more women would take the initiative to become entrepreneurs! Changing our mindset and way of thinking is one of the important benefits of business coaching . One of the countless benefits of business coaching is the change of mentality, the mindset that the Anglo-Saxons also say! Business coaching is the method that will lead you to this change! Business coaching is our compass in the new data of work culture.

Case study No3: Preparing for a leadership role

Solution-focused coaching Agreement The coaching was scheduled by the Human Resources Department of a consumer goods distribution company. Helen, a senior executive, was faced with difficult strategic decisions and under special circumstances. She deserved all the support she needed. When she contacted me, we clarified the confidentiality of the discussions and set my fee, without specifying the number of sessions. We agreed that we would complete the coaching when Helen felt she could move forward on her own. (…..) Start session Helen first described her position, which was truly uncomfortable. One of the most senior executives had left the company. Without him, she would not have sufficient executive-level support for a strategic project she was leading. The employees in her unit—a few thousand people—had begun to feel increasingly insecure and were spending their energy on gossip instead of using it for the good of the company. I asked, “What needs to happen today to make this conversation worth your time?” Helen thought for a minute and decided to start with the changes she herself would need to make in her work behavior. “I need to learn to demand more for myself, especially now that things are tough. I think I need to stand up a lot more aggressively now, especially with the CEO and my team.” We explored what would happen if she demanded more for herself. It was obvious that this was a very important issue for Helen and that any improvement in this area would have a very positive impact on both herself and others. “Think of a scale from 1 to 10, where 10 means you demand everything you need for yourself and 1 means the opposite. On this scale, can you show me the range – over the past two weeks – of your ability to demand more for yourself?” After thinking about it carefully, Helen set the range between 2 and 4. “Sometimes I do better, but last week I wasn’t being demanding and clear enough with the CEO, and one of my key arguments just got lost.” Like many clients, Helen first thought of a time when she had failed to behave as she would have liked. She was focusing on her supposed inadequacy rather than where she might find clues to a solution. So I wondered how I could shed light in the opposite direction, on the abilities she didn’t yet see. “What are you doing now that you’re between 2 and 4 that you weren’t doing when you were 1?” Helen described several changes she had made in the past two weeks. For example, she had started to intentionally set fewer priorities and had managed to stop doing some things. She had canceled her attendance at an executive event and had asked an internal client to choose between two projects, which one would be temporarily postponed. We briefly discussed how she had been able to make such clear decisions and stick to them, despite the difficulties. Goals Helen didn’t want to stay at 2 or 4. Her goal was to get to at least 7 or 8 on the scale. I really enjoyed it and was curious to find out how much she already knew about her desired future behavior. “Let’s say you’ve somehow managed to get to 7 or 8. I don’t know right now if that’s possible or how you’re going to get there. But let’s say you’re already at 7 or 8. What would you do differently? Can you give me a few specific examples?” Within 10 minutes, Helen had developed a detailed and multi-layered picture of the changes she wanted to make in her behavior. I asked her how her team members would notice the changes, how her CEO would notice them the next time they spoke, and what would grab the attention of her closest colleagues when she got to 7 or 8 on the scale. We also discussed how each partner would likely react and what benefits this would have for the company. By this point, we both knew we were talking purely hypothetically. Helen was somewhere between a 2 and a 4 on her scale. Still, the 7 or 8 scenario seemed appealing to her, and I could – somehow – tell that her determination to achieve it was growing stronger. She was now absolutely clear about what she wanted to achieve. More supplies As I listened to her description of how she would behave at 7 or 8, I suspected that she must have already had some foreshadowing about her goal, thanks to moments when she had been above 4. “Helen, what recent examples can you think of that are signs that you were closer to 7 or 8, even for a moment?” Helen thought of three examples. One incident she had described with the CEO was around 6. Another example from a department meeting was also around 6. Another example from a department meeting was at 7. And an example with her team was also around 6. “Yes, in the last meeting that we had about the project, I really behaved differently. We had another endless discussion. And I didn’t let it go. I just made a decision. I honestly admit that this situation bothered me. But to my surprise, the decision was immediately accepted and implemented very effectively.” By expanding this successful example with the CEO, who was at 6 on the scale, Helen gained valuable insights into what she could repeat more often to achieve her boss’s clear commitment. End session Based on the success factors that Helen identified in the three examples, she prepared an action plan with specific steps that she would implement within 72 hours of the session. “Now it’s crystal clear what I’m going to do more of.” I was so happy for her. It’s much easier to repeat something new or different. Taking one last look at her scale, Helen remarked with surprise: “I’m much closer to my goal than I could have imagined this

What is stopping you from starting your next business?

This question is truly a thought-provoking one. A new professional beginning can refer to various changes. It can be related to a change of career and field of activity, it can refer to a promotion, it can refer to the beginning of a business endeavor. The essence of the question is not so much what comes next but what comes before. That is, what are our basic characteristics that provide us with faith and certainty that we can succeed. So let’s ask ourselves… What is stopping me from starting my next business? Some initial answers would be the dubious financial situation, bureaucracy, lack of funding, lack of appropriate training and consulting, doubt whether we can meet our new role and many more. Clearly, before making any financial decision, we also research the existing framework. How many times, however, do we read about success stories that managed to stand out against the circumstances? The stories of Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos are an example.. And how many Greek start-ups have gained global market shares in recent years? Find information about accusonus, viva wallet which are the definitions of the belief that knowledge, the right strategy but above all the belief in what I do and by extension in ourselves, can lead us. Let’s look at this question with more internal introspection. If someone told you that they could solve all of the above issues, would you take the next step? Would you dare to see yourself in a new position and role? Unfortunately, the answer would not be a definite yes. In most of my business coaching sessions when I ask this question, after some time of thinking and deep introspection the answer is that what is stopping me is myself. That is, our own self is the obstacle to our next step. Hold on to this realization for a moment.. How much does it resonate with you? This initial realization is very important to help us evolve and get to know ourselves. It is easy to shift responsibility to factors that we cannot control but to take responsibility ourselves…  In essence, when we bypass the trivial and ask ourselves what is really stopping us, we find that it is ourselves. And when is our own self an obstacle? It is an obstacle when we are not aware of our strengths, when we do not know in which areas we are good and in which we are not, when we have not been cultivated to believe in ourselves. And now most of you will be wondering. What does our inner search and truth have to do with business coaching? I want to change jobs, I want to open a small shop.. The first and main step before any new beginning or change of position or promotion is to know ourselves very well. To be able to recognize our strengths, our weaknesses, the way to help our weaknesses not be inhibiting factors in our professional career, to define our own way of presenting ourselves. For example, when we have managed to land an interview with a large company that interests us very much, we need to showcase all our strengths and “camouflage” our weaknesses. In a presentation of our investment plan, in addition to the correct use of numbers, it is necessary to show dedication, faith and self-confidence to our potential investors. And how will I present all my strengths if I don’t know what they are? Therefore, I need to find my strengths. How? There are many tests on the internet that help with this purpose, you can find a lot of material to read. However, a very simple way to get a first impression of your strengths is to ask your close professional and social network about what characteristics they find in you as positive and dynamic. You may be surprised by the answers you receive. You can, of course, also make a more important decision and invest in yourself… start Business coaching sessions. Business coaching in the initial sessions focuses exactly there… on empowering and raising our awareness so that we can perform better at our work. Some of the benefits of business coaching are the following: And what do I need to do to start Business coaching sessions? What is essential is a commitment to yourself that you will embrace your uniqueness and stay focused on your action plan and its goal. Coaching & career

Case study 2: Career decision Case Study: A successful bank manager faces a complex decision about a career change and discovers what he really wants in life. Beginning of the session – Finding Sometimes the basis on which a decision must be made is complex. It seems like a dead end. None of the options are attractive enough. Ernest, a manager with an extremely impressive career in banking, sat across from me, talking for 30 minutes in great detail about the decision he had to make between two positions within the bank. He had four days to decide. The multinational bank he worked for was in the midst of a reorganization. At the time, it was between an old structure and a new one, and there were many unforeseen factors. I asked him, “How can I best help you in the 30 minutes we have left?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Anyway, I don’t have time to prepare for what I really want to do in the four days I have to make a decision. “You know, up until now, all my career moves have been driven by external circumstances. Basically, what I would really like is to start having time for myself, to decide what I want, to shape my life according to my own vision. But instead, I find myself stuck between only two choices.” How can I help? I asked him if we should look at this. He said yes, that shaping his own life was very important. I said, “Let’s look at this on a scale of 1 to 10. If 10 means you are shaping your life the way you want it, where are you on the scale now?” After thinking about it, he said he was at 2.5, and so we spent the next 20 minutes or so discussing the small differences between 2.5 and 1 on the scale. I asked him several times, “What else is already at 2.5?” We talked about small successes he had with his bank or his family, his systematic involvement in sports as a youth soccer coach, and some personal successes in his relationship with his wife. I asked him which of all of these he was most proud of. He replied, “The fact that I came to meet you today!” I moved heaven and earth to get to this appointment, I postponed two meetings, I drove from Zurich, and now I’m sitting here and I’m already starting to take time for myself, even though the cost will be working all weekend to catch up on the work that was left behind.” I wanted to know if, regarding his decision, he needed anything else from me before we ended the session. “No, forget the decision. ‘Anyway, there’s no decision whose consequences we can completely predict. End of session – Decision Whatever I decide in the end, the important thing for me is that I realize that I have started to do the things that are important to me.” Having said these words, he returned to Zurich with the confidence of a man who had taken time for himself. When there seems to be no solution to a dilemma, as coaches we can sometimes be helpful by offering another perspective and a third option. I learned from a mutual acquaintance that Ernest is doing well in shaping his life.
