Coaching: Business Coaching Vs Life Coaching

Coaching has attracted the interest of many people, and rightly so. Working with a coach is like having a personal trainer who helps you achieve your goals, both in your personal and professional life. Coaching: What is coaching? In the 1970s, people began to realize that the coaching approach used in sports could add value to life in general. In 1975, Tim Gallwey, a successful American tennis player, wrote his best-selling book The Inner Game of Tennis: The Mind and Body in the Quest for Performance. The book was one of the first to focus not only on physical fitness, but also on “the battle within ourselves as we try to overcome doubt and anxiety.” Gallwey soon became sought after by both businesses and athletes in the United States. Coaching is a process of self-discovery that helps you become the best version of yourself. It is a way to discover what you really want in life and work and organize a plan of action. Now, coaching has various specializations, which, although they use similar methodology, have different goals and serve different needs. What is Life Coaching? Life coaching focuses on achieving personal goals, such as improving self-confidence, time management, or resolving relationship problems. What is Business Coaching? Business coaching focuses on achieving professional goals, such as better targeting in the professional arena, increasing sales, or developing new skills. Business coaching “borrows” practices from Life coaching, however, with the aim of professional empowerment and success, not solutions to personal problems. In these two articles, you will find all the information you need to understand what business coaching is and what it is not. What is Career Coaching? Career coaching helps people who want to make changes in their career or develop in their current position. Career coaching is a subset of business coaching with a very specific goal setting, the change or development of your career and usually the duration of its sessions is less. All types of coaching share common practices, methodologies and philosophy. Their essential difference is the type of goal, personal or not, and the duration of the sessions depending on the goal that has been set. How to choose the right type of coaching for you? Choosing the right type of coaching for you depends on your goals and needs. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to help you choose the right type of coaching: If you caught yourself thinking a lot of yeses to the answers above, then yes you need Business coaching in your life. How to find a suitable coach? It is important to find a coach with whom you feel comfortable and with whom you believe you can build a strong relationship. It is very important that the coach comes from a changing and intense business environment so that he can “bring” his experience to your sessions. Also, your coach needs to have the ability to understand what the English say: read between the lines. That is, they should have heightened emotional intelligence so that they can understand what you and the coach are sharing in the pauses, in the body posture, in the answers, such as “I don’t know…”. How to deal with procrastination?

What is procrastination? Procrastination is not laziness. It is not part of our personality. It is not a lack of will or a lack of intelligence. According to research, it is a way to deal with our stress. It is simply a habit that, however, we do not know how to escape from. Avoiding starting or completing a task indicates a symptom that needs to be addressed. Many of us have spent countless hours: watching TV, scrolling through social media, eating, or calling a colleague we haven’t spoken to in years, even cleaning the office. We are busy with many things, as long as we don’t have to do a specific task. The cost of procrastination in business The truth is that procrastination is a problem that affects everyone, regardless of their profession or age. However, it can be particularly detrimental to entrepreneurs, as it can lead to delays in business development, lost opportunities, profits, frustration, and of course, stress. This is why it is important to look more carefully at the reasons why we avoid action and prefer inaction. Causes of Procrastination: Why We Procrastinate There are many reasons why we procrastinate. Sometimes, we procrastinate because we find a task boring, difficult, or unpleasant. Other times, we procrastinate because we fear failure or because we are trying to find the right conditions to get started. How to deal with procrastination There are several things we can do to overcome procrastination. Goal setting One important way is to set specific goals with a specific time horizon. This will help us maintain our focus and avoid procrastination. Task Sharing We can also break down our tasks into smaller, more manageable tasks. This will make us feel less discouraged and help us get started faster. The fear of authority Another effective way to overcome procrastination is to start working on a task, even if it’s just for a few minutes. This will help us get the first push and continue with greater productivity. After all, the beginning is half the battle. Perfectionism and Procrastination Finally, it is important to remember that we do not have to be perfect. We all make mistakes. Allowing ourselves to make mistakes is one of the most important tools to combat our procrastination. The important thing is to consider mistakes as a step towards the goal, that is, to learn from them and move forward. Business Coaching We identify the problems together, suggest solutions and help you implement the changes. Procrastination and Entrepreneurs Entrepreneurs often face additional challenges that can lead to procrastination. For example, they may feel like they have too much work to do and not enough time. They may also be afraid to take risks or unsure of how to proceed. To overcome these obstacles, entrepreneurs can follow the tips below: Creating a business plan A business plan will help you understand your goals and create an action plan to achieve them. Setting priorities You can’t do everything at once. Focus on the tasks that are most important to the success of your business. Assignment of tasks Don’t try to do everything yourself. Delegate tasks to employees or partners when possible. Relaxation Constant work can lead to exhaustion and procrastination. Make sure you are resting and have enough energy to keep going. How to set the “right for you” goals in 2024

New Year – New Goals We all like beginnings and new goals, don’t we? Some choose their birthday, others in September, as if we were still in school, others on New Year’s Eve. Especially in recent years, there has been an “epidemic” of setting goals, reflecting on what we have achieved, what we have failed at, creating wish lists for travel and/or experiences, wanting to improve our health – physical and mental, increasing our business’s revenue, changing careers. How long do these decisions and new goals last? But at some point, routine or failure forces us to lose our bearings or simply adjust to reality. According to a  Forbes Health/One Poll survey  , the average goal duration is just 3.74 months. Only 8% of respondents tend to stick to their goals for one month, while 22% for two months, 22% for three months, and 13% for four months. But this practice, especially for us entrepreneurs, is not the most effective. So how do we set goals? Professional or personal goals that we can follow for more than 4 months? How do I achieve my goals? Professional goals using the SMART tool One of the most useful tools we use in Coaching is SMART. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-Bound and was first used by George T. Doran in the article “There’s a SMART way to write management’s goals and objectives” in issue 70 of Management Review in November 1981. Since then, this tool has been used in many areas of business management and organization. Especially in Coaching, both in Business and Career, this tool helps us measure successful results, or those that need to be re-evaluated. Business Coaching SMART – Set “smart” goals Specific – We set specific goals Let’s say we have a business idea and want to start our own business. One of the goals we should set is to create a comprehensive business plan. To achieve this goal, we need to break it down into smaller, more specific goals. The more specific our goals are, the more likely we are to achieve them. This is because specific goals help us focus on what is most important. Measurable – The goal must be measurable. A goal should be measurable so that we can evaluate our progress and know if we have achieved it. For example, if our goal is to increase our sales, we should set a specific percentage increase, such as 50%. This way, we will be able to track our progress and know if we are on the right track. Achievable – The goal we set must be achievable A goal must be achievable so that we can achieve it. By setting unattainable goals, we often become discouraged and give up. Being ambitious, especially in business, is the driving force, but we should set goals that we can achieve based on our own capabilities and available resources. Realistic – Our goal should be realistic Our goals should be realistic and achievable. Let’s say we want to start our own business, opening a tourist accommodation. If we want to do everything ourselves, from promotion to cleaning, we should consider whether this is realistic. Will we have enough time and energy to cope with all the demands? Do we have the necessary qualifications and knowledge? Time-Bound – The goal must be time-bound A specific schedule helps us stay consistent. Usually, when we have a specific deadline, we are forced to take action. The SMART tool as a practical application in Business Coaching sessions Several coachees have confided in me that although they were familiar with the SMART tool, they were not able to use it successfully. This is because they only knew these tools on a theoretical level, while during the conferences they are personalized and applied in practice. The necessity of working with a qualified  Business Coach  arises from the need for customized guidance and placement of tools in a practical and professional context. A qualified Coach can help the partner understand how the SMART tool can be adapted and integrated into their own professional challenges. The  Business Coach  does not just provide knowledge, but creates a collaborative environment where the coachee discovers how to incorporate SMART goals into everyday life and the achievement of her professional ambitions. Working with a Business Coach is not simply optional, but is essential for the effective use of the SMART tool.
